On Thursday,
Rep. Karen Yarbrough (D-Maywood) introduced a joint resolution in the Illinois General Assembly calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush. Two co-sponsors joined the resolution on Friday. See
the diary by Kagro X or
Proviso Probe for background.
Jefferson's Manual of the House of Representatives allows for impeachment to be initiated by a resolution passed by a state legislature. This procedure has been used to initiate impeachment of judges in the past.
What's needed to pass the Yarbrough resolution? We need a plan and the resources (people power) to implement it. See below the fold for a draft plan.
How would you modify or improve this plan?
Who are the targets of persuasion?
1. Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President Emil Jones
2. State representatives and senators
3. Political insiders
4. Media, traditional
5. Media, alternative
6. Media, online
7. Others?
The first two are primary targets of persuasion; the rest are secondary targets.
What are the assets we patriots bring to the equation?
1. Motivated citizens
2. Activism experience
3. Blogs
4. Personal connections
5. Communications network
6. Other?
Part of the plan has to include:
1. Recruiting volunteers and taking inventory of how the volunteers can best contribute
2. Identifying blogs that want to participate
3. Identifying who has existing contacts with targets of persuasion
4. Building networks for organizing
Not a "flash in the pan" effort
While I'm glad for the excitement expressed in the diary by taraka das I want to build the plan and organization to implement a long-term strategy. I don't want any legislature to get the idea s/he can duck this issue by waiting for supporters to lose interest.
I created the poll because it seems there are members of the dKos community that are concerned about being perceived as too radical. I'm curious how much the dKos community supports and opposes moving ahead with impeachment.
